The on-going adventures of a Canadian in Korea.

Hey Everyone,

Just letting you know that I am exactly one level deadlier then I was before I left. Monday Julie and I successfully passed out Yellow Belt test. It was pretty fun, I screwed up in parts of the actual pumsai (routine), but atleast I was making the snaps with my punches and kicks which was good. As well, I was also good at knowing the Korean names of most of the stances, kicks, and punches. THe best part of the test was something that they didn't tell us we'd be doing.....Breakin' Boards.

It was pretty awesome, Julie went first and she had no idea how she was suppose to kick the board, but when she did it broke into three pieces and hit the ceiling. I was impressed. I on the other hand cannot kick as high as Julie, so I missed on my first attempt and barely succeded on the second. Then came the punching, this I knew I could do. Julie went first and managed to break on of the two boards on her first time and then broke the second one, but hurt her hand a little bit breaking the two boards. When it was my turn Quang-jang-nim, the Master, told me I would be doing three boards, I've watched enough Bruce Lee films to think I know what I'm doing, so I was okay with it. So they held the boards and I did some practice punches to get my snap down, and it was no problem, I broke'm easily. Finally the years of watching great martial arts films like Sidekicks, paid off.

Halloween in Korea

Here are some pics from Halloween, as you probably guessed it isn't really celbrated in Korea, so it was a bit hard to find the costumes. These first two pics are taken in Julie's apartment, I'm actually wearing her striped shirt. After a few beers at the apartment we went to the Red Rock for the Halloween party. Here's a pic of Neil as Popeye and Sara as a Devil. I thought he would win the costume competition for sure.
Me and Steven: Never bring a sword to a gun fight.
Julie and English (as in British) Dave, The Russian Sailor .

Two Pirates: It's not the size of the sword, it's how you use it.

From Lto R: Devil#1, Sexy Pirate, A Canadian, Harry Potter and Devil#2
Julie and Me.
We had to leave early that night because we had to leave the next morning for Soeul at 6:30am to go to a Teacher's Conference. We didn't get to stay for the announement of who won the costume competition, but when we left I was leading in votes for the guys. Unfortuneately I didn't win, I'm not sure what place I came in, but English/Russian Dave, took home the trophy. Fittingly enough it was a big bottle of Vodka. I guess he was meant to win. Maybe if it was rum, the pirate would've won. YYYYAAARRRRRGGGGGGGGG

Amyen-do Pics

Here are some pics from our trip to Amyen-do, sorry I couldn't get them up last time, been some bloggin difficulties but hopefully that's taken care of.

Here is one of the pics from the beach, there were a few of these big land masses that were covered in trees along the beach. Around them were all these little holes in the sand where you could see little sandcrabs scurryin' about.

Here's a pic of me and Tammy on the beach

This was the meal that night at the prawn fest.

One of the musical acts at the festival.

Day 2: 2 of 10 sculptures in front of the Buddhist temple. Protectors of the temple.

The Buddist temple from the front. In the far left there were people laying out pumpkin slices to dry.

Temple veiw from the rickty bridge at low tide.

This was the taken at the aboretum, this was the spot we hiked to across the park.

15-20min later we were there.

View from the outpost. Yes we hiked that far.
Well that's the best of the pics from that trip. Next up are the Halloween pics. Hope everything is sorted out and you can post comments. If not just send an e-mail Rovert123@hotmail.com.
